The afrobasket 2015 ( shortly : Afrobasket 2015 ) was the 28th edition of this tournament and found from 19 to 30 August 2015 in the Tunisian port city of Radès on the outskirts of the capital Tunis instead. After the attack in Port El-Kantaoui in 2015 , the planned venue in Nabeul was abandoned. In Tunisia, the tournament is taking place for the third time after 1965 and 1987 .
The new Africa champion Nigeria with MVP Chamberlain Oguchi defeated defending champion Angola in the final and qualified for the second time in a row with the first title win, and this time directly for the 2016 Olympic basketball tournament . Host Tunisia , who had defeated the Nigerians in the preliminary round, secured the bronze medal against the Senegalese , who, with NBA professional Gorgui Dieng, were the most successful scorer of the tournament and who in turn narrowly defeated the defending champions in the preliminary round. Apart from title holder Nigeria, all other semi-finalists have to go to an additional qualifying tournament for participation in the Olympic Games in the following year.

At the tournament, a preliminary round in four groups of four teams each was held as a round-robin tournament. The placements in the preliminary round groups result in a seeding list for the final knockout rounds , in which in the round of 16 the first knockout round, the four best in the group initially played against one of the four bottom groups and the four runners-up against one of the four Third party. According to the preliminary round results, a quotient was formed after the losers of the round of 16 played another placement game. The losers of the quarterfinals played from five to eight in a placement round. The losers in the semi-finals played for the bronze medal in the "small final". The title winner qualified directly for the 2016 Olympic Games, while the other three semi-finalists reached another Olympic qualifying tournament in 2016.
