The 1995 African Championship , the eighteenth African Basketball Championship , took place between December 11th and 18th, 1995 in Algiers , Algeria , which hosted the championship for the first time. The winner was Angola , which was able to defend its title and win the title for the fourth time in a row. Senegal could be defeated in the final .
The preliminary round was played in two groups (group A and B) of five (group A) and four (group B) teams. Each team played against each other exactly once, so that each team played exactly four (Group A) or three games (Group B) (a total of 16 games were played). There were two points for each win and one point for a defeat. The two teams with the highest points moved into the semi-finals. In the event of a tie, the direct comparison decided . In the semifinals, Angola played against Nigeria and Senegal against Algeria for a place in the final. The third placed played for fifth place and the fourth placed for seventh place. Zaire was the last in Group A to finish ninth overall and was thus last of the tournament.
