All games were played in the sports hall of the Université d'Antananarivo . The Ivorian metropolis of Abidjan was originally intended to be the venue for the final round. After the political unrest in Ivory Coast, it was decided at the end of April 2011 that the final round should take place at the replacement site in Madagascar. The final round was finally held at the next African Cup in 2013 in Abidjan.

After six consecutive tournament victories, Angola lost the final against Tunisia , which won its first title with " MVP " Salah Mejri and qualified for the Olympic Games for the first time after having qualified for the World Championships for the first time a year earlier . While Angola did not qualify for the Olympic Games a year later, bronze medalist Nigeria , which defeated the originally intended host Ivory Coast in the "small final" , later qualified for the Olympic basketball tournament.
