As wheatgrass juice , the liquid is referred that protrudes when the young shoots of wheat (Triticum aestivum) after a few days (before the formation of knots for new leaves - Jointing Stage) harvested and pressed afterwards.

effect

According to the American Cancer Society, there is no scientific evidence available that a wheatgrass diet can cure a disease or prevent a disease.

However, according to a small pilot study on 23 patients, adding young wheat plants to active distal ulcerative colitis , an inflammatory bowel disease, in addition to conventional treatment could have a soothing effect. However, according to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center , larger studies are needed to evaluate these results.

ingredients

Wheatgrass is rich in vitamin A , vitamin C , vitamin E , vitamin K , thiamine , riboflavin , niacin , vitamin B6 , pantothenic acid , iron , zinc , copper , manganese and selenium . Contrary to popular belief, wheatgrass is low in vitamin B12 .

The main component is chlorophyll. This is responsible for the green color of the wheatgrass.

The amount of the ingredients varies greatly and depends on various factors such as the location, the soil conditions or the time of harvest. There is currently no official nutritional table for wheatgrass.

Self-cultivation

Wheatgrass can also be grown indoors in suitable cultivation trays all year round. There is the possibility to grow the wheatgrass with but also without soil.
