The women's African basketball championship in 1984 , the ninth women's African basketball championship , took place between December 22 and 30, 1984 in the Senegalese capital Dakar , which was the third time the championship was held. The winner was the national team of Senegal , which won the title for the fifth time and was still unbeaten. In the final, Zaire could be beaten.

In the preliminary round there were two groups (group A and group B) of four teams each. Each team played against each other of the respective group exactly once, so that each team played three games (a total of 12 games were played). There were two points for each win and one point for a defeat. The two teams with the highest points moved into the semi-finals. In the event of a tie, the direct comparison decided . The third placed played for fifth place and the fourth placed for seventh place.
