The afrobasket 2013 ( shortly : Afrobasket 2013 ) is the 27th edition of this tournament was held from 20 to 31 August 2013 in the Ivorian city of Abidjan instead. All games were played in the Palais des Sports de Treichville . The tournament medalists qualified for the final round of the 2014 World Basketball Championship .
While defending champion Tunisia fell short of expectations in ninth place after losing the round of 16 against the Egyptians without a win in the preliminary round , Angola was able to regain the title and win its eleventh title win in the last 13 championships. The defeated finalist Egypt returned to the medal ranks after ten years. Hosts Ivory Coast failed in the "small final" with one point difference against Senegal , which they had clearly beaten in the preliminary round, and thus also missed the qualification for the 2014 World Cup.

At the tournament, a preliminary round in four groups of four teams each was held as a round-robin tournament. The placements in the preliminary round groups resulted in a seeding list for the final knockout rounds , in which in the round of 16 the first knockout round, the four best in the group initially played against one of the four bottom groups and the four runners-up against one of the four Third party. According to the preliminary round results, a quotient was formed after the losers of the round of 16 played another placement game. The losers of the quarterfinals played from five to eight in a placement round. The losers of the semi-finals played in the "small final" for the bronze medal and a remaining starting place in the finals of the world championship. The winners of the semi-finals qualified for the finals of the World Cup and played for the gold medal.
