The 1979 African Basketball Championship , the sixth women's African Basketball Championship , took place between December 28, 1978 and January 6, 1979 in the Somali capital, Mogadishu , where the championship was held for the first time. The winner was the national team of Senegal , which won the title for the third time in a row.
