SuS Recklinghausen

SuS Recklinghausen was a sports club from Recklinghausen . The first soccer team played for three years in the highest amateur league in Westphalia.

history

The club was created in 1913 through the merger of SK Blumenthal with SV Hibernia Recklinghausen ; From the end of the 1920s, the Hibernia arena on the Hinsberg in Recklinghausen's east quarter was a venue. In 1931 he was promoted to the then first-class district league of Westphalia . Two years later, SuS came third in the western group behind SpVgg Herten and Preußen Münster . Nevertheless, the club was not included in the newly created Gauliga Westfalen , as the fourth-placed local rival Viktoria Recklinghausen was preferred.

SuS reached the promotion round to the Gauliga in 1935 and 1936. At the first attempt the team failed at TuS Bochum 08 and Erle 08 , while a year later SV Rotthausen and Borussia Dortmund were able to prevail. After the end of the war, the team was champions of the district class in 1946, but failed in the promotion round to the regional league in the playoff with 0: 4 at VfL Witten . A year later, they made the leap into the third-class regional league, where the team won the season after a 5-0 play-off win over Westfalia Herne .

This was followed by the finals for the Westphalia Championship against Preußen Münster. SuS won the first leg in Münster 1-0, but lost the second leg in their own stadium 2-1. The playoff ended goalless after extra time , as did the replay. The decision was made in the third play-off, which the Prussians won 2-1 and were promoted to the Oberliga West . In 1950, SuS was relegated from the regional league and was passed through to the district class a year later. At BV Buer 07 the Recklinghäuser lost 0:12.

Back in the district class, lean years began for the club. It was not until 1959 that SuS was runner-up behind TuS Haltern . Two years later, they were promoted to the state league again, followed by relegation in 1963 after a deciding defeat against Prussia Coesfeld . In 1971 SuS became champions of the district class and merged with Viktoria Recklinghausen to form SC Recklinghausen . The SC in turn merged with Eintracht Recklinghausen in 1981 to form 1. FC Recklinghausen , which was dissolved in 1996 for financial reasons. FC 96 Recklinghausen was founded as the successor club.
