The gymnastics and sports club Haltern am See from 1882 eV , commonly known as TuS Haltern , is a sports club from Haltern am See . He was the starting point for several players and coaches in the Bundesliga . In addition to the football department, which makes up around half of the 1000 club members, there are also departments for athletics, popular sports, gymnastics, tennis, table tennis and surfing, as well as a running club. Like the soccer department, tennis and table tennis have competition teams.

history

The history of TuS Haltern is closely linked to the history of ATV Haltern and the Haltern fire brigade . On October 22nd, 1882, the original association of all three was founded as Turner Feuerwehr Haltern eV. After the foundation, the focus was on gymnastics. In 1907, football was added, initially as a relaxed group called “Spiel und Sport Haltern”. Then in 1914, the first permanent football club was "Edelweiß". After the First World War, various sports groups joined forces: soccer, athletics and gymnastics were the preferred sports. In 1930 a handball department was added. In 1937 all Haltern sports clubs were merged under the name Turn- und Sportverein Haltern from 1882 by the NS Reichsbund for physical exercises .

It was not until 1951 that they were re-established as TuS, ATV and volunteer fire brigade. Between 1952 and 1956, the club's football division played in the then third-class Landesliga Westfalen . For a long time the point of contention was the right to use the addition "from 1882". These disputes were settled by 1982, so that all three clubs celebrated their hundredth anniversary together in downtown Haltern.

TuS Haltern has been financially supported by its former and now active player Christoph Metzelder since 2008 . After a financial injection to avert insolvency, a support team was formed which, in addition to the economic restructuring, is concerned with improving the training conditions (sports field, trainer training with DFB licenses), intensified public relations work (advertising campaign, networking via social media such as Facebook or Twitter) and intensively takes care of youth work. The first advertising campaign in Germany by a district league club - "Tu's Haltern" - won 2nd place in the 2010 Sports Marketing Prize. The Stauseekampfbahn got an artificial turf pitch in 2009. In 2016 TuS Haltern only just managed to get promoted to the sixth class Westphalia League, because they benefited from the better goal difference compared to BSV Roxel tied on points . In October 2016, the TuS started the campaign “True football instead of commodity football” for more awareness of amateur football. A year later, the TuS rose to the Oberliga Westfalen , and in 2019 made the leap into the fourth-class Regionalliga West .
