The Alter Turnverein Haltern from 1882 is a sports club from Haltern am See , which carries out popular, fitness, senior and competitive sports . In addition to Indiaca , where the club is one of the world's best, the club also offers volleyball , badminton , gymnastics , basketball and cycling .

history

On October 22nd, 1882 the founding meeting of the TV Haltern took place in the Kolkschem Saal. Fifteen men dared to put the gymnastics ideas of gymnastics father Jahn into practice. Days later, on November 1, 1882, 30 men - women were not allowed - also called the gymnastics fire brigade into being. In both meetings and until his death (November 17, 1904), Carl Schregel was the driving force behind the basic idea of gymnastics. Herrmann Backmann was elected as his successor in 1904. The Backmann family was very active in TV Haltern for many years. Adorf Backmann led the club from 1924 to 1929 and Olf Backmann from 1951 to 1968. In the meantime, Paul Priebs (1909–14) and Clemens Sebbel (1929–35) sat in front of the TV.

The history of the ATV Haltern is closely connected to the history of the voluntary fire brigade Haltern and the gymnastics and sports club Haltern from 1882 eV .

So after about twenty years of working together, the voluntary fire brigade Haltern was founded on October 1st, 1903. The areas of responsibility and goals of the statutes were so different that a solution from the fire brigade from TV Haltern seemed sensible.

Integration and coexistence has always been one of the strengths of the gymnastics community according to the motto “ fresh, from, happy, free ”. Over the years, groups were formed that found their first home with sports such as athletics, swimming and soccer, which were also shown on TV. In the years after the First World War, the gymnastics body grew significantly to around 350 members. By now women were an integral part of gymnastics. From this creative period 1929–30 the Turner created the Jahnhalle am Lippspieker. The gymnasts were granted a short time to use this mammoth project.

From 1933, National Socialism was casting its shadow. From January 1, 1934, the then chairman, Clemmens Sebbel, was politically prohibited from running TV Haltern. In 1937, all Haltern sports clubs were forcibly merged under the name Turn- und Sportverein Haltern from 1882 by the NS Reichsbund for physical exercises . The Jahnhalle was put to another use during the war.

After the Allied military legislation did not allow associations to be formed after the Second World War until 1950, it was not possible to return to the status quo of 1933. Only through the establishment of the DTB in 1950 in the Paulskirche in Frankfurt, among other places, was free will formation legally given again. On November 30, 1951, TV Haltern from 1882 was re-established with the addition of "old".

After a name dispute with TuS Haltern, the TV was now allowed to call itself Alter Turnverein Haltern from 1882 . The point of contention was in particular the addition "from 1882". These disputes were settled by 1982, so that all three clubs celebrated their hundredth anniversary together in downtown Haltern. In 2007 the 125th anniversary was also celebrated together.
