history

Early years (1970 to 2011)

SV Rödinghausen was created in 1970 through the merger of the clubs VfR Bieren and SV Grün-Weiß Schwenningdorf . VfB Bieren was founded on June 25, 1948. Merger partner SV Grün-Weiß Schwenningdorf was established in 1932. Both of the parent clubs of today's SV Rödinghausen did not go beyond the district level during their existence. In contrast to many other merger clubs, which use the founding date of the oldest parent club as the founding date of the new club, the actual year of the merger was counted as the year of establishment at SV Rödinghausen.

The footballers of SV Rödinghausen only played at the district level for decades and have always fluctuated between mediocrity and relegation battle since they were promoted to the Herford district league A in 1994. At the end of the 2000s, the kitchen manufacturer Häcker Küchen, in the person of senior boss Horst Finkemeier, began to get more involved financially in the association. Finkemeier came to the club through his grandson Jan, who played in the club's youth, where, according to Finkemeier, the teams “didn't even have uniform jerseys”. Finkemeier stated that he wanted to establish a center of excellence in the region and aim for the upscale amateur area of the Oberliga Westfalen.

The club signed numerous players who had previously played for higher-class clubs. Many of them got a job at Häcker Kitchens. In the 2009/10 season, the Rödinghausen team were first champions of the Herford football district with 85 out of 90 possible points and were promoted to the district league. Only TuS Hunnebrock was able to defeat SVR this season. After a 5: 3 over Bünder SV , Rödinghausen also won the district cup. In the following 2010/11 district league season, coach Karl-Friedrich Wessel's team won the championship again and played for the first time in the Häcker-Wiehen Stadium, which is still under construction. At the end of the season, coach Wessel left the club.

Promotion from the regional league to the regional league (2011 to 2016)

For the 2011/12 season, Mario Ermisch took over the coaching position, who had previously worked successfully for regional league team SC Verl . At the same time, the club moved into the now completed stadium. In the regional league , too, the SVR secured the championship with just one defeat and 14 points ahead of SC Rot-Weiß Maaslingen. As in the previous two years, the team scored over 100 goals. The highlight of the season was the district derby against SC Herford in front of 2,200 spectators, who saw a 5-1 victory for Rödinghausen.

In July 2012, the Spanish top club Valencia CF made a guest appearance at Wiehenstadion, who won the friendly 4-0 in front of 2,200 spectators. In the Westphalia league season 2012/13, the SVR played again for the championship and delivered an exciting race with FC Eintracht Rheine and SuS Stadtlohn . The SpVgg Vreden was during the season with 11: 0 defeat. On the third from last game day, the SVR managed to advance to the Oberliga Westfalen with a 2-2 win against Eintracht Rheine in front of 1,200 spectators. For Rödinghausen it was the fourth rise in a row. A preparatory game for the 2013/14 season against the Premier League club Aston Villa in front of 2,000 spectators in the Wiehenstadion ended 1-1. In the first league season in the club's history, the SVR was runner-up. This secured the club the fifth rise in a row. The promotion was already clear on matchday 30.

In its first regional league season, the club finished 8th as the best newcomer. The following 2015/16 season was less successful. Although the team led the table for a few game days in the first third of the season, the team threatened relegation in the second half of the season. In April 2016, trainer Ermisch was given leave of absence. Tim Daseking took over as interim coach and led the team to relegation.

Establishment in the regional league (since 2016)

For the 2016/17 season, the former Dutch Bundesliga player Alfred Nijhuis took over the coaching position in Rödinghausen. In the Westfalenpokals 2016/17, the Rödinghausen-based team reached the semi-finals, which were lost to Sportfreunde Lotte 3: 5 on penalties . On April 25, 2018, coach Nijhuis was dismissed after the team lost 7-1 at SG Wattenscheid 09 and 5-2 at Bonner SC within four days . Sebastian Block took over the coaching position as an interim solution and got ten points from the last four games. Marius Bülter and Christopher Kramer from Wuppertaler SV were top scorer in the Regionalliga West with 20 goals this season. As the best Westphalian team of the regional league season, the Rödinghausen-based team qualified for the DFB Cup after a 3-1 win against the champions of the Oberliga Westfalen SV Lippstadt 08 .

Enrico Maaßen became the new head coach for the 2018/19 season. Maaßen had previously led SV Drochtersen / Assel to the Regionalliga Nord . In the first main round of the 2018/19 DFB Cup, the Rödinghausen-based team beat the second division Dynamo Dresden 3-2 after extra time . Maximilian Hippe scored the winning goal in stoppage time for the hosts who had moved to the Lotter Frimo stadium for the game . In the second round Rödinghausen met FC Bayern Munich . In the stadium at the Bremer Brücke in Osnabrück , the guests prevailed 2-1.

Data on the DFB Cup game against FC Bayern Munich

In the 2018/19 regional league season , the SVR was in the top group and went into the winter break as second in the table. However, due to the small stadium capacity and the limited infrastructure, the club decided not to apply for a license for the 3rd division . The 2018/19 regional league season ended in third place. Simon Engelmann was the top scorer in the league with 19 goals. In addition, the club won the Westphalia Cup , where the finals of the SC Wiedenbrück 2: was defeated first

Dates for the Westphalia Cup final 2019

By winning the Westphalia Cup , SV Rödinghausen took part in the DFB Cup for the second time . In the first round, SV Rödinghausen lost to SC Paderborn 07 2: 4 on penalties. For the first time, the Wiehenstadion was sold out in a competitive game. 2,236 spectators saw the game; more viewers were not allowed by the DFB requirements. Also in the regional league season 2019/20 , the Rödinghausen-based company was among the top group of the league. Nevertheless, the club again waived a license application for the 3rd division. The reason given was the high demands made by the DFB on the third division clubs, which would not be feasible in the home stadium. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the season had to be canceled and table leader Rödinghausen was declared champion.

In addition to the first team, SV Rödinghausen provides two other men's teams. The second team rose to the Westfalenliga in 2015 . There is also an old man team and eleven junior teams . Rödinghausen's A-Juniors became champions of the Westfalenliga in 2018 and played in the A-Juniors Bundesliga for the first time in the 2018/19 season . Fans

The SVR Amigos fan club has existed since October 2011 . Inspired by the “Los Wochos” promotion by the fast food chain McDonald’s , a small group of SVR fans began attending the games dressed as Mexicans in sombrero and poncho . The fan club currently has 30–35 members. The fans of SV Rödinghausen maintain a friendship with the supporters of FC Viktoria Köln . The Rödinghausen-based company achieved the highest average number of spectators in the club's history in the 2015/16 regional league season with an average of 1,234 visitors. The club mascot is a wolf .

social commitment

SV Rödinghausen supports the Hammer Forum aid organization , which provides medical help for children in crisis areas worldwide.

criticism

Like other clubs sponsored by patrons such as TSG 1899 Hoffenheim or RB Leipzig , SV Rödinghausen has been sharply criticized. Even in the district and state league, the club was referred to as a "million troop". The sporting director of the Westphalia league club SV Herbern , Frank Heidemann, explained in an interview that his club would not set up such a high budget if it were covered by only one person, as in Rödinghausen. After the goalless league game between SV Rödinghausen and Westfalia Rhynern , Rhynern's coach Björn Mehnert compared his club to a VW Beetle , which kept up with a Porsche . In advance, Mehnert had described SV Rödinghausen as the most financially strong league club in all of Germany. Rödinghausen's trainer at the time, Mario Ermisch, was annoyed by Mehnert's statements and described the discussion as a debate about envy .

Individual evidence

  1. a b c After the standing stand was completed in July 2014, there is still no updated capacity officially announced by the club. This is therefore based on an estimate: 90 mx 4 steps x 2 standing places per step meter + 95 mx 1.2 mx 2 standing places per m² on the area in front of the first step. Total: 948 standing places. Of the previously 600 uncovered standing spaces on three sides (spread over approx. 200 m), the construction of the grandstand means that 300 standing spaces (standing around 100 m long) are no longer available. Overall, the current stadium capacity increased from 2,489 visitors so net by about 648 standing on now about 3,140 seats (2,489 + 648 = 3,137).
