Björn Mehnert (born August 24, 1976 in Dortmund ) is a former German soccer player and current soccer coach .
Career
Björn Mehnert has been playing football for DJK Sportfreunde Nette since he was seven . Since the C-youth he played at Borussia Dortmund . With the B-youth he was once, with the A-youth twice German champion of this age group. Mehnert also began his professional football career at Borussia Dortmund , where he had three appearances in the Bundesliga in the 1997/98 season and was substituted on for Michael Zorc on March 11, 1998 in the second leg of the 1997 UEFA Super Cup . He then moved to LR Ahlen , but in 2000 he went back to Borussia Dortmund for two years. Mehnert moved to Wuppertal SV Borussia in 2002/03 , where he played until the 2006/07 winter break. He then played for half a season at Preußen Münster in the league before moving back to Wuppertaler SV Borussia. In addition to his work as a player, he also took on the role of assistant coach for the second team. For the 2009/10 season, Mehnert went to Westfalia Rhynern . Here, too, he worked as an assistant trainer. From the 2010/11 season he joined SV Hohenlimburg as a player-coach . In addition, he studied sports marketing and created video analyzes for the second division club VfL Osnabrück . From summer 2011, Mehnert was the first team coach at Westfalia Rhynern, replacing Michael Lusch . In the 2016/17 season he rose to the Regionalliga West with Rhynern . Previously, on January 13, 2017, it was announced that he would join the regional league team SC Wiedenbrück as a coach during the 2017 summer break .
Mehnert played three games in the 1st Bundesliga (no goals) and 190 games in the Regionalliga (eleven goals).
