The FC Wegberg-Beeck 1920 e. V. is a German football club from Wegberg .

history

In February 1920, due to the great popularity that the soccer game found in the village of Beeck , under the chairmanship of Franz Bertrams, the "Sports Club 1920 Beeck" was founded. A meadow on the Beeckbach served as a sports field. In 1921 they joined the West German game association . Over the years, with the help of the then independent community administration Beeck, a piece of land on the edge of the forest could be leased. There was a sports facility with fixed goals and picket fence. A four-leaf clover in green on a red field was chosen as the club emblem , the jerseys were black and red striped with socks and black shorts. During the Second World War , the game was suspended.

After the end of the war it was again Franz Bertrams who, with the support of a few others, ran the Sportclub 1920 e. V. Beeck resurrected. In the following years the population of Beeck and the number of members of the association increased. In July 1996 the club became FC Wegberg-Beeck 1920 e. V. renamed. The first team was promoted to the Oberliga Nordrhein in 1996 . After six years, the FC had to file for bankruptcy , because the obligations could no longer have been met by the end of the season due to the expiry of some sponsorship contracts. This resulted in relegation to the regional league. In 2005 the club returned to the league for one season. In the 2008/09 season, the club took part in the DFB Cup and lost 4-1 to Alemannia Aachen in the first round of the game at Borussia Park . At the end of the 2014/15 season , the club rose to the fourth-class Regionalliga West for the first time , in which they were relegated to the bottom of the table after a year. In the following season 2016/17 , however, the direct rise again succeeded. The 2017/2018 regional league season ended in 16th place in the table and again relegated to the Middle Rhine League.
