Wolfgang Homberg (born April 18, 1969 in Germany ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach .
Player career
Wolfgang Homberg began his career in 1988 in the second Bundesliga with SG Union Solingen . But in his first season he had to relegate with the club after it had been in the second division for 14 years. In the 1990/91 season he played for the amateur club SC Brück , which later merged with Viktoria Köln to form SCB Viktoria Köln . In 1991 Homberg was signed by the Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund . There he could never prevail against the big competition like national players Thomas Helmer or Günter Kutowski . His only Bundesliga appearance was on matchday 28 on March 14, 1992, when Borussia won 3-1 at home against 1. FC Kaiserslautern . Defender Homberg came on as a substitute for Michael Lusch in the 81st minute . He then moved to the relegated Fortuna Düsseldorf , who were relegated a year later to the Oberliga Nordrhein, at that time the third highest German division. He then went back to SC Brück and qualified with him in the 1993/94 league season for the new regional league. In 2001 Homberg moved to the Cologne amateur club FC Eintracht Italia. Then he played for FC Wegberg-Beeck . In 2003 he returned to SCB Viktoria Köln, which at the end of the season should be relegated from the Oberliga to the Association League. After a further season at Bonner SC and again at SCB Viktoria Köln, Wolfgang Homberg ended his career as a player in 2006.
Coaching career
During his active time at Bonner SC, Wolfgang Homberg also briefly acted as a trainer himself in 2004 and after the employment of Andrzej Rudy he continued to work at his side as a player and assistant coach. After Rudy's dismissal, he was again an interim coach until the end of the season. At the beginning of 2007 he trained his former club SCB Viktoria Köln with Thomas Klimmeck . After a few weeks, however, he got out again after parts of the team had spoken out clearly against him.
