Christian Schreier (born February 4, 1959 in Castrop-Rauxel ) is a former German football player and current coach .

Player career

Schreier played from 1981 to 1992 for VfL Bochum , Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Fortuna Düsseldorf in the Bundesliga . His greatest sporting success was the 1988 UEFA Cup when Leverkusen defeated Espanyol Barcelona in the two finals . In the Bundesliga he played a total of 331 times and scored 106 goals. In the German national team , he was used once in a friendly against Argentina in 1984.

With the Olympic team he took part in the Olympic Games in 1984 and 1988, with a total of 22 games (7 goals) he is the record player in this selection. In 1988 he won the bronze medal with the team. For winning the bronze medal at the 1988 Olympic Games, he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf - together with the German Olympic Football Team.

He ended his active career in 1997 at FC Wegberg-Beeck in the Oberliga Nordrhein .

Trainer

After holding positions as assistant coach at the Vorwärts Kornharpen and 1. FC Saarbrücken clubs , Christian Schreier began his career as a coach at FC Schönberg 95 , where he worked from July 2002 to June 2004. The championship in the NOFV-Oberliga Nord in the 2002/03 season was his greatest success here.

From July 2004 to April 2006 Christian Schreier was the trainer of MSV Neuruppin . Under Schreier, the team took second place in the NOFV-Oberliga Nordost in the 2004/05 season and won the Brandenburg State Cup.

From April 6, 2006 he was the coach of 1. FC Union Berlin . Under Schreier, the team rose in the 2005/06 season with 5 points ahead of its former employer, MSV Neuruppin, in the Regionalliga Nord and managed to stay in the league the following season.

On March 21, 2007, at the request of the coach, 1. FC Union and Christian Schreier agreed to let the contract, which actually ran until 2008, end in summer 2007. The parties agreed not to disclose the reasons.

In the 2010/11 season he coached the Lower Rhine division TV Jahn Hiesfeld from Dinslaken.

At the end of September 2013, Schreier took over the upper division TuS Heven , but resigned from his post in mid-October 2013.

Manager

On February 8, 2008, Schreier took the post of manager at the second division soccer club SC Paderborn 07 . He took over from Managing Director Michael Born, who had previously been dismissed from the association. He was released there on April 2, 2009.

Others

His younger brother Toni was also a professional soccer player at VfL Bochum.
