The beginnings

Lakić started playing football at the NK Dubrovnik when he was ten . He went to Hajduk Split when he was 15 and stayed there for two years. The striker began his professional career at NK GOŠK Dubrovnik and played for NK Hrvatski dragovoljac until 2005 . He then went to NK Kamen Ingrad for one season .

Hertha BSC

For the 2006/07 season Lakić signed a contract with Hertha BSC that ran until 2009 . On August 13, 2006 (1st matchday) he played for the first time in the Bundesliga with a 0-0 draw at VfL Wolfsburg . From August 31, 2007, he was eligible to play for the Dutch first division club Heracles Almelo through a loan deal .

1. FC Kaiserslautern

For the 2008/09 season he moved to the second division club 1. FC Kaiserslautern , for whom he scored his first goal in his first competitive game in the first main round of the DFB Cup competition (1: 2 defeat at FC Carl Zeiss Jena ). In his first year he was the second top scorer in the Palatinate. Even a two-month forced break due to a heel injury at the beginning of the 2009/10 season did not throw him out of step and with seven goals he contributed to the Lauterer's promotion to the Bundesliga as champions at the end of the season .

On August 21, 2010 (1st matchday) in a 3-1 win in the away game at 1. FC Köln , he scored his first two Bundesliga goals; in the first half of the season he scored a total of eleven goals. In the second half of the season, however, followed a long time without scoring with moderate performance. Combined with the fact that his move to VfL Wolfsburg after the end of the season had already been announced in January with a photo of Lakić in VfL's jersey, this led to a conflict with some of the Lauterer fans, which was resolved again. In the final stages of the season, Lakić also distinguished himself several times as a goalscorer.

At the beginning of the 2009/10 season Lakić was appointed team captain by coach Marco Kurz together with Martin Amedick . However, Amedick wore the captain's armband, as only one captain may be entered on the score sheet. This regulation continued after the Bundesliga promotion in 2009/10.

VfL Wolfsburg

Lakić warming up in Wolfsburg (2012)

For the 2011/12 season Lakić moved to VfL Wolfsburg on a free transfer and signed a four-year contract. He made his debut in the DFB Cup on July 29, 2011 in the 3-2 defeat against RB Leipzig , to which he contributed the goal to 2-1. Lakić made his first appearance in the Bundesliga when he lost 1-0 to FC Bayern Munich on August 13, 2011, when he came on for Patrick Helmes in the 88th minute .

In the following games Lakić was used more often, but he could not convince; he only played twice in the last eight games and was not in the squad in the last three games before the winter break.

Loan to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim

On this occasion, Lakić was awarded to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim during the winter break . He was supposed to replace Vedad Ibišević, who had migrated to VfB Stuttgart . At the beginning of March, a strain of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee stopped him. He therefore only made his comeback on April 7, 2012 in a 2-1 away win against 1. FC Kaiserslautern . As a result, Lakić never got beyond the role of reservist. He returned to Wolfsburg at the end of the season.

Loan to Eintracht Frankfurt

After hardly being used in the first half of the season, he moved to Eintracht Frankfurt on loan at the beginning of the second half of the 2012/13 season until June 30, 2014 . In his first game for Frankfurt, he scored both goals in a 2-0 away win at Hamburger SV ; two more goals followed by the end of the season.

Return to Kaiserslautern

On January 31, 2014, Lakić's contract with VfL Wolfsburg, which was still running until June 30, 2015, was terminated and he returned to the 2nd Bundesliga for 1. FC Kaiserslautern. He signed a contract that ran until the end of the 2013/14 season with an automatic extension of the term after a certain number of assignments. At the end of the season, the contract period was extended in accordance with the clause. At the end of August 2014, Lakić was chosen as the new team captain. On October 4, 2014, he scored his 50th competitive goal for FCK in the game against Karlsruher SC , making him the Lauterer's most successful goalscorer since Miroslav Klose (52 goals), who was with FCK until 2004.

SC Paderborn 07

In the winter break of 2014/15, SC Paderborn 07 signed Lakić. He received a contract running until June 30, 2016 with an option for one more season. After SC Paderborn was relegated from the second division, he ended his career as a professional footballer in July 2016.

National team

Lakić completed three games for the Croatian U21s in 2005 in qualifying for the 2006 U21 European Championship in Portugal. On November 4, 2010, the Croatian national coach Slaven Bilić nominated him for the European Championship qualifier against Malta for the first time for the Croatian national team . However, he remained without commitment.
