Martin Amedick (born September 6, 1982 in Delbrück ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

The beginnings

Martin Amedick graduated from high school Nepomucenum Rietberg in 2002 . In the same year , Amedick , who previously played in Arminia Bielefeld's U-19 team , signed a professional contract with Ostwestfalen. After two seasons, the defender moved to Eintracht Braunschweig for free in the summer of 2004 .

Borussia Dortmund

Amedick as a player from Borussia Dortmund (2007)

For the 2006/07 season Amedick moved free of charge from the then second division club to Borussia Dortmund . He had a contract with Westphalia until June 30, 2009. In his first Bundesliga game on August 19, 2006, he scored a goal.

Amedick played in the 2006/07 season under coach Bert van Marwijk 18 Bundesliga games from the start and scored two goals. With Borussia Dortmund he was in the DFB Cup final in Berlin on April 19, 2008 , which was lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich . He himself was part of the squad, but was not used.

1. FC Kaiserslautern

For the 2008/09 season he moved to the second division club 1. FC Kaiserslautern . In the young team, the experienced player took on a leading position as organizer of the defense. Within the first five games he scored two goals (each after corners from Bellinghausen ). In total, he came up with four goals and two assists this season .

At the beginning of the 2009/10 season Amedick was determined by coach Marco Kurz together with Srđan Lakić to be the team captain. However, Amedick wore the captain's armband, as only one captain can be entered on the score sheet. This “two-captain model” continued after the Bundesliga promotion in 2009/10. Also in this season he was able to achieve four goals of the season and prepare one.

In October 2010, Amedick extended its contract, which originally ran until 2011, by three years to 2014 with an option for a further year. On November 27th, 2010 he scored his first Bundesliga goal for FCK in a 5-0 home win against FC Schalke 04 , making it 2-0. In the second half of the 2010/11 season he had to cede his regular place to Mathias Abel , but he was in the starting line-up in the penultimate game of the season in Wolfsburg and scored the winning goal in this game to make it 2-1.

For the 2011/12 season , Martin Amedick had to hand over the captain's armband to Christian Tiffert .

Eintracht Frankfurt

In January 2012, Amedick was signed by Eintracht Frankfurt on the last day of the transfer window . There he signed a contract until June 2014 and was given the number 5 on his back. On February 5, 2012, he made his debut for the Frankfurt team in the home game against Eintracht Braunschweig . In July 2012, Amedick received medical treatment for exhaustion syndrome. After a six-month break, he returned to Eintracht team training in January 2013.

SC Paderborn 07

For the 2013/14 season Amedick returned to his youth club SC Paderborn 07 on a free transfer . With the SCP, he rose to second place in the Bundesliga in 2014. However, Amedick did not get beyond the role of supplementary player and only to seven inserts. After SC Paderborn's promotion to the Bundesliga, he was transferred to the second team of Paderborn, which plays in the Westphalia Association. After a year, he ended his career with the end of his contract in 2015.

Style of play

His playing position was the central defense , but in set pieces or when he was behind shortly before the end of the game, he was often found in the opposing penalty area due to his headball strength. He was also one of the fairest players in the league as he received very few yellow cards despite his position in defense. In the 2006/07 season he even got by without a yellow card.

successes

social commitment

Martin Amedick is committed to the Robert Enke Foundation . His foundation work consists of visiting professional clubs where he speaks about the disease depression and works preventively against it on site. According to Teresa Enke , the widow of the former goalkeeper Robert Enke and chairman of the foundation, Amedick seems authentic because he was “affected by the disease”.
