NK GOŠK Dubrovnik 1919 is a Croatian football club in the city of Dubrovnik and was formed in 2015 from the merger of NK GOŠK 1919 and HNK Dubrovnik.

history

Beginnings of football in Dubrovnik

The first football club in Dubrovnik was founded in 1919 under the name HNK Plamen (German: Croatian Football Club Flame). After being renamed in 1922, the club operates under the name GOŠK , the name of which is derived from the Dubrovnik district of Gruž ( G ruški O mladinski Š portski K lub; German: Gružer Youth Sports Club). The roots of local rivals NK Jug (German: FC Süd) also go back to 1919. This emerged as NK Dubrovnik from the merger of Olimpija and the Balkans in 1922. In 1928, NK Dubrovnik was dissolved, only to be re-established under the name NK Jug after the Second World War. After the union with Borac and the railway club Željezničar 1951 he played again under the name NK Dubrovnik (German: FC Dubrovnik). In 1978 the club was renamed again to NK Jug .

GOŠK youth

In 1979 the two Dubrovnik clubs NK Jug and GOŠK merged to form the city club GOŠK-Jug . During this time, the greatest successes were achieved when you fought alongside the two Croatian second division clubs NK Šibenik and NK Split for promotion to the first division and attracted attention with attractive football. The promotion to the first division failed several times, u. a. also because the greatest talents left the club regularly for the first Yugoslav league.

HNK Dubrovnik

After a decade in the 2nd Yugoslav League, the club became a founding member of the first Croatian league ( 1st HNL ) after Croatia's independence after renaming in 1992 as HNK Dubrovnik (German: Croatian Football Club Dubrovnik ). The elite league could be held for four years. After relegation to the 2nd division in 1993/94, they failed in the following 1994/95 season in relegation on promotion to the 1st division. Due to financial difficulties, he was forced to relegate to the 4th division (Zupanijska Nogometna Liga) and ultimately bankruptcy in 2004, which resulted in a new start as HNK in 1919 in the 5th division. Until the 20104/15 season you could u. a. with a 3rd place in the table in the 2014/15 season quite successfully in the 4th league. Due to the merger with GOŠK, the team no longer competed for the 2015/16 season.

The new GOŠK

Between 1992 and 1998 no football was played in Dubrovnik under the name GOŠK . After irreconcilable differences with the club's management, Pero Vićan founded a new club in 1998 under the old name GOŠK 1919 . The desired success soon came. While the local rival disappeared due to financial difficulties in footballing insignificance, GOŠK rose in 1919 in the 2000/2001 season in the 2nd League South (2nd HNL jug), which could be held until the 2004/2005 season. In the first round of relegation, the league penultimate GOŠK was able to defeat local rivals NK Konavljanin from the suburb of Čilipi in 1919 . As a result of the defeat in the second round against NK Karlovac they rose to the 3rd division. The immediate resurgence in the 2005/2006 season should not succeed despite the superior championship of the 3rd League South (3rd HNL jug) with 10 points ahead of the runner-up. Due to the away goals rule, NK Moslavina ultimately had the upper hand in the relegation (0: 1 and 2: 1). To make matters worse, due to the state of the stadium, the home game could not be played on the home field in Lapad, but in Imotski 150 km away. In the following season after the missed promotion, the class could be held with difficulty after a new formation of the team. The relegation to the 4th league took place in the 2014/15 season as the bottom of the table with 4 points behind the rescuing bank (33 points from 34 games). The merger came into effect for the 2015/16 season.

present

After many unsuccessful years in the lowlands of Croatian football and the resulting decline in spectator interest - even top games were seldom attended by more than 200 spectators - and legal disputes regarding the legal succession of the first Dubrovnik football club Plamen from 1919, was opened on August 30, 2015 Pressure from the Croatian Football Association surprisingly announced a merger of the two clubs, which was finally officially carried out on April 17, 2016. Already in the 2015/2016 season, the fusion club entered the 4th division. The promotion of the new club to the third division succeeded in 2015/16 as a superior first in the table with a 16 point lead over second table Croatia from Gabrile. Currently they play in the 3rd Croatian League - South.

future

The stadium situation , which has not yet been clarified, stands in the way of GOŠK's possible promotion to the 2nd division, as the football association only issues a second division license after meeting various minimum requirements. The merger of the two city rivals demanded by the city was carried out in 2015, but the implementation of the planned new stadium at the same location for around 5,000 spectators is still open.

Fans

Traditionally, the region is mainly behind the traditional Croatian club Hajduk Split . Sections of the Torcida can also be found in many small towns in the Dubrovnik area and in the city districts. GOŠK Dubrovnik - like the two merger associations - does not enjoy a comparable status. While the original HNK Dubrovnik was also supported by the small fan group called Padavičari for away games , the GOŠK had no organized fan group. The supporters of the HNK Dubrovnik are extremely critical of the merger and the leadership of the new association by Pero Vican in the social networks, the support of an association under the leadership of Vican is excluded.
