Tschammer Cup 1942
The Tschammerpokal 1942 was the eighth competition for the German football cup.
The mode of the previous years remained unchanged for the eighth competition. However, the phase of the Gaugruppenspiele was expanded again, as five new Gauligen had been formed with the sports districts of Wartheland , Generalgouvernement , Cologne-Aachen , Westmark and Moselland . Nevertheless, the number of participating teams had decreased, as the district class teams in particular had to suffer from their players' military service and had therefore withdrawn from the game. In order to take into account the travel restrictions caused by the war , the games were scheduled according to regional criteria up to and including the round of 16. Only then did they return to the usual draw procedure.
TSV 1860 Munich won the eighth final of the Tschammerpokal after a 2-0 victory over FC Schalke 04 , which lost for the fourth time in its fifth cup final.

Match report |
In the eighth Tschammerpokal final, the young TSV 1860 Munich team faced the five-time cup finalist FC Schalke 04. The Munich team finished the soccer championship in 1941/42 as third of the Gauliga Bayern, while the Gelsenkirchner went into the final as champions. This clearly clarified the question of the favorite. In cloudy weather, the master started his usual top game - safety football to let the opposing team run into the void. However, the sixties were prepared for this tactic and responded with attacking football. However, this was initially ineffective because Munich's attackers Ernst Willimowski and Heinz Krückeberg repeatedly got stuck in the Schalke defense. Most of the game scenes took place in midfield without a team being able to gain an advantage. After a goalless first half, the second half began without any compelling scoring opportunities. While Schalke stuck to his top game ineffectively, the Munich team withdrew and initially relied on their stable defense. Their midfield could not set any accents either, Ludwig Janda and Engelbert Schmidbauer played without ideas. After 70 minutes of harmless banter, Bayern finally decided to force their offensive. Their strikers now managed to break away from their guards and appear dangerously in front of the opposing goal. Their efforts were soon successful, because in the 79th minute, the half-right striker Willimowski managed to make the 1-0 for Munich from close range. Then the game awoke from its lethargy, because Schalke switched to attacking football. However, Munich could rely on their safe goalkeeper Hans Keis, who destroyed numerous chances for the miners. 1860 switched to counterattacks and was successful again in the final minute. Your left winger Schmidbauer started from the center line a solo effort and scored the 2-0 final score after he had played out Schalke goalkeeper Flotho. |
