↓ District Leagues

The Gauliga Berlin-Brandenburg was one of the top German leagues in the era of National Socialism .

history

The Gau classification 1933,
No. 3 = Berlin-Brandenburg

In the course of the conformity with the National Socialists in 1933, all previous football associations were dissolved. The game was now organized in 16 football districts and a single-track Gauliga was set up as the top division. The 16 Gauliga champions were qualified for the final round of the German championship . The Gauliga Berlin-Brandenburg consisted of clubs from the former Association of Brandenburg Ball Game Clubs and teams from the Niederlausitz district of the Southeast German Football Association .

The Gauliga Berlin-Brandenburg was mostly played on a single track. At the beginning, twelve teams were represented in this, but the number of participants was reduced by one club per season, so that at the beginning of the 1935/36 season ten participants took part. The first placed was Gaumeister and qualified for the German championship, the last two teams were relegated. In the 1939/40 season, the league was divided into two seasons with six teams each. The Gaumeister was determined between the two season winners in the first and second leg. After a year, the league was merged again and played in a season with twelve teams. From 1941 only ten teams were represented in the first division of the Gaus. In the 1944/45 season, the championship was canceled after the 13th matchday due to the war.

From the beginning, the Gauliga was dominated by Berlin teams, which made up the Gauliga champions among themselves. In contrast to many other Gauligen, there was no team in Berlin that had dominated the league for the entire time. A total of six teams were able to win the Gaume Championship, none of the teams managed to defend the championship title directly. At the German championship, however, the Gaumeister from Berlin could not win any championship titles. The greatest successes were reaching the semi-finals of BFC Viktoria 1889 in the German championship in 1934 and third place for Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin in the German championship in 1942 .

The substructure of the Gauliga Berlin-Brandenburg consisted of the second-class district classes. In the 1933/34 season there was the Berlin-Potsdam district class and the Frankfurt (Oder) / Lausitz district class , each of which was played in two groups. In the coming seasons, the number of district classes was increased. The winners of the district classes met in a promotion round to play off the two promoted to Gauliga. The district classes were arranged under the district classes.
