The 1. FC Guben is a football club based in Guben which existed from 1923 to 1945. It was created in 1923 from the football department of MTV Guben .

history

1. FC Guben was founded in 1923 from the football department of MTV Guben created in 1910 . The predecessor club MTV Guben played in the 1922/23 season in the then first-class district league Niederlausitz, but rose again at the end of the season in the district league. The 1. FC Guben succeeded in 1923/24 , 1927/28 and 1932/33 each for one season in the district league Niederlausitz.

With third place in the A-Class Niederlausitz, 1. FC Guben missed the leap into the newly founded first-class Gauliga Berlin-Brandenburg in 1933 and from then on played in the second-class district class. The club achieved the greatest success in the club's history in the 1933/34 season . As group winners of the district class Frankfurt (Oder) / Lausitz Nord , the club qualified for the promotion games for promotion to the Gauliga Berlin-Brandenburg and prevailed there against FC 1901 Forst in three games. After the club won the first leg 3-0, they lost the second leg 4-1. With a 4-2 win in the playoff, the team rose from pits.

In the 1934/35 season , their only season in the Gauliga, 1. FC Guben was able to win twice and, in addition to the SC Union Oberschöneweide and Police SV Berlin, are directly relegated from the league. Both in the 1935/36 season and in the 1943/44 season, the team of 1. FC Guben qualified for the promotion round to the Gauliga Berlin-Brandenburg, which was played in league format. You could never prevail in the two rounds of promotion. After the Second World War , the 1. FC Guben club, like all other clubs, was dissolved.

Succession

After the dissolution, the association was re-established in the Soviet occupation zone as SG Guben-Mitte . In the following years, the club faced several changes of name. Renamed in the early 1950s to KWU Guben and progress Guben , from 1961 the name was changed to BSG Chemie Wilhelm-Pieck-Stadt Guben . On a sporting level, the Lausitzers made it to the GDR league against TSG Gröditz in the 1985/86 promotion round . The second highest division of the GDR had to leave Chemie Guben as the knocked-down bottom of the table after only one season.

In 1989 Guben managed a more successful return to the GDR league. In the first season a secured midfield position could be fought. In the following season, second place was achieved behind 1. FC Union Berlin , and the promotion was only just missed. The club, which was renamed SV Chemie Guben in 1990 after the reunification, disappeared quickly into oblivion and has since played at state level. In 2003 the football department of Chemie Guben merged with ESV Lok Guben and re-established 1. FC Guben . The current league is the seventh division Brandenburg South.
