The Police SV Berlin ( Police Sports Association Berlin eV , PSV , 1949–1951: VfL Sportfreunde Berlin ) is a traditional Berlin sports club; he is one of the largest clubs in the capital. The current police president is also the honorary president of the PSV and takes part in selected events, and overall the association cooperates closely with the Berlin police. The PSV is open to everyone; it is no longer necessary to be a member of the police force.
The PSV does not have its own club premises; the individual departments and their offers are spread all over the city.
history
Police SV Berlin was founded on June 1, 1921 with the following departments: athletics, boxing, swimming, soccer, heavy athletics, jiu-jitsu and handball. All members had to be members of the police department. After the women's sports department was founded in 1930, the wives of the police officers were also able to do sports.
In the following years the following departments were added: 1923 hockey, 1924 cycling, fistball, small-bore shooting and youth, 1926 motor sport, chess and tennis, 1927 shorthand, bowling and rugby, 1928 guard dogs, 1929 photo, 1930 women's sport, 1931 fencing.
After the end of the Second World War , there was initially no more sports, the club was only allowed to be re-established on June 14, 1949, initially (until 1951) as Sportfreunde Berlin . The departments after the re-establishment were: athletics, handball, boxing, swimming, table tennis, judo and basketball.
In the meantime (as of 2013) the club is a modern large club with a diverse range of sports in the popular sports area.

Handball department
The handball department has been one of the most successful sports departments of the Police SV Berlin since it was founded. In the early days of handball, between 1922 and 1944, the team was multiple German champions in field handball . After the Second World War , however, PSV was only rarely able to build on its old successes, in modern indoor handball they made it into the finals of the German championship five times, the greatest success of the post-war period was the German runner-up in 1952 .
Several youth and adult teams train and play in the games of the handball association Berlin. The 1st men's team made it into the new 4th league ( Ostsee-Spree-Liga ) in the 2009/2010 season , but was relegated 2 years later. In 2003 the handball players were awarded the Green Ribbon award for exemplary talent development in the club .

Football department
The football department, founded in 1921, played in the top or second-highest division of the Berlin Association until the 1970s, the greatest success was the Berlin amateur championship in 1960. In 1991, the football division left the club and merged with 1. FC Concordia Gropiusstadt-Buckow.
(former) ice hockey department
The PSV men's team used to take part in the game operations in the Landesliga Berlin and was no longer reported to the 2002/03 season after being excluded from the league during the 2001/02 season.
