The Northeast German Handball Association (NOHV) was a regional association in the German Handball Federation ( DHB) and consisted of the state associations Schleswig-Holstein , Hamburg , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , Berlin and Brandenburg . It was founded on February 29, 1992 in the ballroom of the Charlottenburg town hall in Berlin and took the place within the structure of the DHB that the handball association Berlin had until then. On June 30, 2012, the NOHV was dissolved.

In contrast to football , not the entire GDR association was converted into a single regional association after reunification. The German handball association (DHV) of the GDR was rather divided into five regional associations, which were then divided into four regional associations. The NOHV was re-established in this context. In addition to the two East German associations, the state associations of Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg , which had previously belonged to the North German HV , joined it. The handball association Berlin lost its previous double status as regional and state association.

The highest division was the Regionalliga Nordost , which was also the only league directly managed by the NOHV. The lower divisions fell into the area of responsibility of the state associations and their circles, above that were the self-governing national leagues . The first-placed team of the Regionalliga Nordost rose to the 2nd Bundesliga , the league champions of the regional associations came to the Regionalliga.

history

A brief discussion in 2004 was whether the two HV Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg should switch back to the North Regional Association. For this, the LV Sachsen-Anhalt should change to the NOHV. However, the two regional associations in question refused to change. The background to the discussion was a supposedly more homogeneous composition of the regional leagues, which were restructured for the 2005/06 season, as a relay operated jointly by all five regional associations (center) was no longer available after six years and the travel distances in the regional league thus increased again.

Youth regional league

The NOHV ran a regional league for boys and girls for the A youth. For the younger age groups B and C youth, a championship was held in the form of a tournament, in which the champions of the top leagues took part.
