Wismar handball in GDR

The handball department taken over from BSG Motor Wismar , which already played in the GDR league, was promoted to the GDR league in 1960/61, the highest league in GDR handball at the time. In fifth place, the Wismar team reached a midfield position in the table. One season, the Wismar women only finished ninth and had to relegate to the district league. In the 1964/65 season, the team from Wismar made it to the GDR league, which was now only the second highest league in GDR handball. In the 1965/66 season they were second behind the BSG Post Magdeburg and missed the direct march into the GDR league .

In the 1966/67 season, the team's handball players won the North Season of the GDR League and thus qualified for the GDR Oberliga. In their first season in the GDR Oberliga they could only win twice and went back to the GDR league together with the promoted BSG activist "Karl Marx" Zwickau . TSG Wismar managed to return to the GDR league again. At the end of the season they were tied with BSG Empor Zerbst . TSG prevailed 17:13 in the playoff. Again, the TSG handball players could not establish themselves in the upper league and had to relegate as the penultimate together with SG Dynamo Karl-Marx-Stadt .

In the 1970/71 season, the TSG handball players again dominated the North Season of the GDR League and managed to gain direct promotion for the second time. For the first time they were able to establish themselves in the following season by finishing sixth in the GDR league. The team was able to make a name for itself in the GDR league with further fifth and sixth places. In the 1974/75 season a main round and then a play-off round was carried out. A fifth place in the main round qualified for the championship play-offs. But there was no improvement there and the team finished the season in fifth place.

In the 1975/76 season there was a cup round without national players to bridge the preparation time for the 1975 women's handball world championship . In this cup round they took third place in the North relay and thus missed out on advancement. The 1976/77 season was then played out again like the 1974/75 season. This time, the TSG handball players finished in seventh place and had to go to the relegation play-offs. There they were able to secure seventh place and thus managed to stay in the league. After taking sixth and seventh places again in the following two seasons, the 1979/80 season was a season to forget. After only two wins and one draw, the team descended from bottom of the table.

After relegation, they dominated the 1980/81 season in the North Season of the GDR League and rose unbeaten straight back to the GDR Oberliga. As eighth place, the team from Wismar just managed to stay in the GDR league. Until the 1984/85 season, the Wismar women occupied either sixth or seventh place and established themselves in the middle of the table. In the 1985/86 season they just managed to stay eighth again. In the following season, the team could not prevent relegation after only three wins.

Once again, TSG Wismar made it straight back to the top, although they only finished second at the end of the season. Since the master TSC Berlin II was not entitled to move up to the GDR Oberliga. As seventh place, the Wismar women could keep the class and in the following season by an eighth place. In the 1990/91 season, which no longer ran under the name of the GDR Oberliga, the team from Wismar qualified for the handball Bundesliga by finishing ninth .

Wismar handball in Germany

In the handball Bundesliga , which was divided into two seasons with 12 teams each in the 1991/92 season , the Wismar women could not qualify for a single-track Bundesliga with an eighth place in the North Season and had to relegate to the 2nd Bundesliga . There they were also sorted into the North Season and dominated them. As first in the table, TSG Wismar made it back to the Bundesliga. The direct resurgence was followed by direct relegation in the 1993/94 Bundesliga season . Tied on points with the two other relegated Berlin TSC and VfL Sindelfingen , the team from Wismar finished 13th.

Again, the Wismar women were top in the 2nd Bundesliga and finished the 1994/95 season in first place and managed to get promoted again. In the 1995/96 season , the Wismar women managed to stay in the first Bundesliga for the first time with a tenth place. The following season they were relegated from the Bundesliga as bottom of the table. At the end of the season, the team from Wismar took first place tied with SV Union Halle-Neustadt . Because SV Union had won a game at the green table, a playoff for promotion to the first Bundesliga had to be played. After losing the first leg 23:32, they couldn't make up a 20:17 win and missed promotion to the Bundesliga.

In the 1998/99 season , she again missed promotion to the Bundesliga with a third place. After finishing ninth in the 1999/2000 season , the Wismar women finished the four following seasons in sixth, seventh or eighth place. After they just managed to stay in the league with a twelfth place in the 2004/05 season , the team from Wismar took fourth place in the 2005/06 and 2006/07 seasons and qualified for the promotion play-offs. In the 2005/06 season they failed in the semifinals against the TuS women , although they could win the home game. In the 2006/07 season they failed again in the semi-finals and this time against HSG Sulzbach / Leidersbach .

After the two good seasons, a bad season followed, which resulted in the penultimate place in the table. So the club had to relegate to the Regionalliga Nordost, which was the third highest league in German handball. But the direct re-promotion succeeded, although they only took second place in the Regionalliga Nordost behind the Reinickendorfer Füchse only second place in the table, because no team wanted to rise from the Regionalliga West. In the two following seasons, she took eighth place in the 2nd Bundesliga and was thus able to qualify for the 2011/12 season of the 2nd Bundesliga , which was only played on a single track. There the TSG Wismar could not prevail and rose as bottom of the table in the 3rd division , which has replaced the regional leagues since the 2011/12 season.

In the third division they were divided into the East relay. In the 2012/13 season they took third place behind HC Rödertal and the second team of HC Leipzig and thus missed out on direct promotion. After they positioned themselves in the top third of the table in the following two seasons and regrouped to the North Season, they finished eighth in the 2015/16 season and thus just managed to stay in relegation. A year later they finished the season in tenth place and could not prevent relegation.

In the 2017/18 season they competed in the Oberliga Ostsee-Spree . In a total of seven games, the player Henrike Bibow, who did not have a valid player pass, was used and these seven games, in which the Wismarers collected 12: 2 points, were rated against her. This meant that TSG Wismar was relegated to the end of the first half of the season. In January 2018, TSG Wismar received 10 points back. At the end of the season the team finished second behind the champions from Berlin's FC Preussen . The Berlin club refused promotion to the 3rd division and this allowed TSG Wismar to rise to the 3rd division as runner-up. After TSG Wismar was relegated at the end of the 2018/19 season, the club gave up its starting place in the major league, which means that the women's team will compete in the MV-Liga in the 2019/20 season.

Football department

TSG Wismar has not had its own football department since 1997. In 1997 the football department split off from TSG Wismar and founded FC Anker Wismar with the footballers from SV Schiffahrt Hafen Wismar .
