The 6th women's handball world championship was held from December 2 to 13, 1975 in the Soviet Union . A total of twelve national teams took part. In the final round with the best six teams, the women's national handball team of the GDR was able to prevail in the group games without a real final and was world champion for the second time.

Preliminary round

In a preliminary round, the participants competed against each other in three groups of four teams each. The best two teams in each group qualified for the final round.

Final round

In the final round of the best six teams, the decision was made directly in the group games without a real final. The result against the team from the same preliminary group was taken over. The Soviet Union missed the already believed safe title in the last group game by a 10-12 defeat against the Hungarians . The GDR benefited from this and became world champions for the second time.
