The 18th women's handball world championship was held from December 2nd to 16th, 2007 in France . A total of 24 teams competed against each other in groups in the preliminary round and the main round. This was followed by the final round with quarter-finals , semi-finals and finals as well as placement games for the remaining places.
The world championship was held in a total of eleven cities. The knockout games took place in the Palais Omnisports in Paris-Bercy.
The team of Russia became world champions with a 29:24 victory in the final against Norway.

Remarkable
The Ukrainian handball player Oksana Sakada broke several vertebrae in the preliminary round match against Germany and had to end the World Cup prematurely. After an initial examination, the doctors still thought the fracture of three lumbar vertebrae and paraplegia were possible.
The German preliminary round victory against South Korea was the first victory of a national or all-German team against this country.
The 45:12 victory of the German team against Paraguay is the highest victory of a German national team. The old record dates back to November 30, 1999, when the German team beat Argentina 34: 9 during the World Cup in Denmark.
With Angola, an African team made it to the finals for the first time.
The 5000 goal mark was not quite broken : a total of 4962 goals were scored.
