Rudolf Wulfertange (born September 22, 1884 in Osnabrück , † January 29, 1974 in Unkel ) was a German writer , painter and sculptor .

Life

Rudolf Wulfertange was the son of the wood carver, modeller and sculptor Heinrich Wulfertange (1854–1924), who was born in what is now the Bremen district of Blumenthal and who later went to Osnabrück. Rudolf Wulfertange attended the Ratsgymnasium Osnabrück , where he passed the Abitur in 1904. During his school days, he received his father's training as a sculptor in his studio on the Roland wall. After graduating from high school, he began studying in Berlin. In 1910 he went to Düsseldorf, worked as a sculptor and frequented Expressionist circles . During this time he created sculptures. In 1913 he married the actress Ilse von Werner, who came from the Cologne publishing house Neven DuMont. During the First World War , Wulfertange served in Darmstadt . Wulfertage later lived with his wife on the Fronhof in Unkel, which belonged to his mother-in-law. Due to the wealth of his wife's family, he was not forced to work for a living.

The only child from the marriage, son Jan, died as a soldier in World War II .

Only in middle years did Wulfertange turn to writing. His first work Schrappenpüster - Jugendstreich and Gestalten with autobiographical features was published in serial form in the Kölnische Zeitung from May 1935 and was published as a book in autumn 1935. He published his other literary works in 1938, 1939 and 1940, including the novel Nono - Solstice of a Love . Don Quixote rides nach Deutschland from 1939 is a largely dialogue-based novel set in the early 16th century. After The Birth of Pegasus (1941) with a drawing by Wulfertange on the cover, he only published The Birth of Mother-in-Law (1943), a cheerful work.

After the death of his son, he turned back to sculpture and painting and created busts and sculptures like those of his friend Stefan Andres , who like him lived in Unkel. The bust of Konrad Adenauer , which is in the Unkel city archive , was created about four years before his death . Wulfertange died on January 29, 1974 and was buried in the municipal cemetery in Unkel.

His written estate, including script exposés, is in the Unkel city archive.
