Else-Marthe Sørlie Lybekk (born September 11, 1978 in Gjøvik , Norway ) is a former Norwegian handball player .

Career

After clubs like Snertingdal IF, Toten HK, Nordstrand IF and the HCL, the 1.77m tall cyclist came back to Nordstrand. In 2010 she ended her career.

The Norwegian played five Bundesliga seasons in Germany for the HCL. The powerful player was also the captain of the Bundesliga club.

She was also an important player in the Norwegian national team , with which she was once world, three times European and once Olympic champion. It was not without reason that she was returned to the squad in 2006 after a one-year break. At the 2007 World Cup in France, she was runner-up. A year later she won the gold medal at the Olympic Games and was also elected to the Allstar Team. After winning the Olympics, she ended her international career.

Sørlie Lybekk was elected Vice President of the Norges Håndballforbund in May 2013 .

Trivia

Her sister Ragnhild Sørlie also played with Else-Marthe at HCL. Her husband Preben Lybekk is a former Danish handball player and acted as a trainer in her farewell match at HC Leipzig.
