The 11th women's handball world championship was held in Norway from November 24th to December 5th, 1993 . A total of 16 teams initially competed against each other in four groups in a preliminary round. This was followed by the main round with six teams in two groups as well as the round of the bottom group for places 13 to 16. Finally, the placement games for places 3 to 12 and the final were played. Germany became world champions in 1993 after a 22:21 win after extra time in the final against Denmark .
