Sabine Bothe

Sabine Bothe , b. Picken , historically Adamik , (born July 8, 1960 in Havelberg ) is a former German handball goalkeeper .

At first she did gymnastics in Havelberg, then switched to athletics (jump and javelin throw). In 1968 she started playing handball as a development player at the handball training center in Havelberg . In 1974 she moved to SC Magdeburg as a field player , where she was soon used as a goalkeeper.

With the women's national handball team of the GDR , she finished fourth at the World Cup in 1982 and 1986, and after 1990 she was also part of the German national team : at the 1993 World Cup , she won the world championship with the team , and the silver medal at the 1994 European championship . She played 236 international matches in which she scored two goals.

In 1986 she was voted handball woman of the year .

She studied sport and geography in Magdeburg . She is married for the second time and has one son (* 1989). In 1984 she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver in the GDR .
