Mango's hometown Urvaste was one of the religious centers of the Brethren in what is now Estonia , primarily through the work of Johann Christian Quandt (the elder) and Mango's father-in-law Adam Koljo . It was made official in 1740 as the first full Moravian congregation in southern Estonia with 140 members. Mango Hans and his wife held leading positions in the community.

In 1743 the tsarist authorities forbade the holding of the Moravian prayer hours. The congregation continued underground.
