Handball player of the year (GDR)

With the award handball player of the year or best handball player in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) from 1980 to 1989, the outstanding handball players of a year were honored annually. The election was the result of a survey among journalists and association officials of the German Handball Association (DHV).

In the Federal Republic of Germany the handball player of the year has been chosen since 1978 .
