Handball World Championship 2013 / Qualification

This page describes the qualification for the Women's Handball World Championship 2013 .

Africa

Africa provides four participants who were determined at the 2012 African Cup of Nations. The championship took place from January 11 to 20, 2012 in Morocco as a tournament. The four semi-finalists qualified for the world championship.

America

The four American participants were determined at the 2013 Pan American Women's Handball Championship , which took place from June 1 to June 8, 2013.

Qualified for the 2013 World Cup are:

•  Brazil (Pan American Champion 2013)
•  Argentina (2nd at Pan American Championship 2013)
•  Dominican Republic (3rd in the 2013 Pan American Championship)
•  Paraguay (4th at the 2013 Pan American Championship)

Asia

Asia provided three participants who were determined at the 2012 Asian Cup . The championship took place from December 7th to December 16th, 2012 in Indonesia as a tournament. The three first placed qualified for the world championship.

•  People's Republic of China (2nd at the 2012 Asian Cup)
•  Japan (3rd at the 2012 Asian Cup)

Europe

Europe has 12 participants in the World Cup. Serbia as hosts and Norway as defending champions are automatically qualified. The two best teams from the 2012 European Championship qualify directly . Since Serbia was already qualified as the host and Norway as the defending champion, Hungary and the future European champion Montenegro were already known as World Cup participants before the semi-finals.

Qualification group

The teams not represented at the European Championship competed in a qualifying round from October 3, 2012 to December 2, 2012 in group matches. The four group winners and the teams that did not qualify for the European Championship then play the ten other European teams in a play-off round.
