Handball World Championship 2019 / Qualification
This page describes the qualification for the Women's Handball World Championship 2019 in Japan .
Africa
Africa provides three participants who were determined at the 2018 African Cup of Nations. The championship took place from December 2 to 12, 2018 in Brazzaville as a tournament.
Qualified for the 2019 World Cup are:
- Angola (Africa Champion 2018)
- Senegal (2nd of the African Championships 2018)
- Democratic Republic of the Congo (3rd of the 2018 African Championships)
America
For the first time, the World Cup qualification in the PATHF area took place in two regionally separate tournaments.
Two participants come from South and Central America, which were determined in December 2018:
In May and June 2019, another participant was determined at the North America and Caribbean Championship.
Asia and Oceania
In addition to hosts Japan, the continental federations of Asia (AHF) and Oceania (OCHF) provide four other participants who were determined at the 2018 Asian Cup . The championship took place in Japan from November 30th to December 9th, 2018.
Qualified for the 2019 World Cup are:
- Japan (hosts)
- South Korea (Asian champions 2018)
- People's Republic of China (3rd of the 2018 Asian Cup)
- Kazakhstan (4th of the 2018 Asian Cup)
- Australia (representative of Oceania; 5th of the Asian Cup 2018)

Slovakia, Switzerland, Belarus and North Macedonia qualified as group winners for the play-off games. Iceland also qualified as the best runner-up in the group due to the better goal difference compared to Ukraine and Greece. One of the deciding factors for this was the high 49:18 victory in Iceland's last group game against Azerbaijan.
Play-offs
The draw for the play-off games took place on December 15, 2018 on the sidelines of the European Championship in France.
