Kari Mette Johansen (born January 11, 1979 in Fredrikstad , Norway ) is a former Norwegian handball player . She played most of her career at Larvik HK in the Norwegian Elite Series and was a member of the Norwegian national handball team for many years .

Career

The right-hander, who played on the left winger position , came to Larvik HK via the stations Skjeberg HK and Lisleby. With Larvik she won 14 championships, twice the European Cup Winners' Cup and once the EHF Champions League . In the election for world handball player of the year 2006 she received the third most votes behind Nadine Krause and Gro Hammerseng-Edin . After the 2013/14 season, she ended her career.

She completed 203 games for the Norwegian team. With the Norwegian selection, she won the European Championship in 2004 , 2006 , 2008 and 2010 . At the 2007 World Cup in France, she was runner-up. A year later she won the gold medal at the Olympic Games . She was part of the squad of her national association at the 2009 World Cup in China . At the 2011 World Cup she won the world title. In the summer of 2012, Johansen took part again in the Olympic Games in London , where she again won the gold medal.
