Valérie Nicolas (born March 12, 1975 in Lampaul-Guimiliau , France ) is a former French handball player . She is 1.78 m tall.
Nicolas, who last played for the French club ASPTT Nice and played for the French women's national handball team, was a handball goalkeeper .
Valérie Nicolas started playing handball at the age of ten and specialized in the goalkeeping position from the age of 16. In 1993 she joined the first division USM Gagny. After two years she moved to the top club ES Besançon, where she won the French championship in 1998, 2001 and 2003, the French Cup in 2001, 2002 and 2003 and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 2003 . In 2003 she moved to Denmark. There she won in 2004 and 2006, the Danish Championship and the Danish Cup, in 2004 also the EHF Cup and 2006, the EHF Champions League . In 2007 she moved to Ikast-Bording Elite Håndbold , which she left a year later. Nicolas then joined the French club ASPTT Nice, where she ended her career in 2012.
Valérie Nicolas played 245 international matches for the French women's handball team . In 2003 she was elected world champion with France and the best player of the tournament, in 1999 she won World Cup silver , and in 2007 she was elected to the All-Star team again. She won bronze at the European Championships in 2002 and 2006 .
Valérie Nicolas trains the French national beach handball team.
