The ASG Vorwärts Stralsund was an army sports community in the GDR , which was based in the Hanseatic city of Stralsund . Mainly soccer was played, the sports facility was the stadium of friendship on Frankendamm .

History of the football section

In 1952, the Sturmvogel sports association was founded in Parow, north of Stralsund, for the GDR maritime police stationed there . The location of the maritime police was relocated to Rostock in 1954 and the sports association then joined as SV KVP Vorwärts Rostock . In 1956, the football team without any athletic qualifications was accepted as the 13th team in the fourth-class Rostock district league and after the founding of the Vorwärts army sports association, it was renamed ASK Vorwärts Rostock in 1956 . A year later, he was promoted to the 2nd GDR League and in 1962 in the second-rate 1st GDR League . In 1963 the football section was spun off from ASK and continued as ASG Vorwärts Rostock-Gelsdorf .

After the end of the football season 1966/67 , ASG Vorwärts Rostock was relocated to Stralsund on July 21, 1967 as part of further restructuring within the Army Sports Association and started as ASG Vorwärts Stralsund from the 1967/68 season . To strengthen the football section, the local rival BSG Motor Stralsund had to hand over two complete youth teams to the ASG. In addition, the first team was strengthened by Günter Baltrusch , who had already played for Aufbau Magdeburg in the GDR upper league , and by Rainer Hermus , upper division player at Wismut Gera .

The opening game under the new name in front of 4,000 spectators against Kovostroj Děčín ended 0-0. Both the first cup game (4: 3 on August 6, 1967 at Motor Eberswalde ) and the first league game of the 1967/1968 season (2: 0 on August 18, 1967 against Motor Babelsberg in front of 5000 spectators, the first goal scorer was Klaus Marowski ), was won. Forward Stralsund could always place in the following period in the upper half of the table of the GDR league . In the 1970/1971 season , Vorwärts Stralsund was the winner of the Northern League Season and was promoted directly to the league.

FC Magdeburg ) had been strengthened, relegation could not be achieved and the team of coach Hans Säckel rose after the 1971/1972 season as the bottom of the table again.

In the season 1972/1973 the team just missed promotion as third of the promotion round. In the 1973/1974 season , the promotion to the top division succeeded again.

One of the great successes was reaching the quarter-finals of the GDR soccer cup four times in 1967/1968 , 1974/1975 , 1977/1978 and 1984/1985 . Out of a total of 683 games, 330 were won. On August 25, 1985, Volker Heims scored the 1000th goal from Vorwärts Stralsund.

On June 4, 1989, the last game in the club's history and also the 580th league game took place in the Stadium of Friendship. In the league season 1988/1989 Vorwärts played against BSG Motor Schönebeck , the last goal (to 1: 1 final result) was also the 980th championship goal. After the end of the season, the Army Sports Association Forward dissolved the ASG Forward Stralsund.

Successor teams

The ASG players were taken over by the Betriebsportgemeinschaft (BSG) Motor Stralsund , which previously played in the Rostock district league and took over the ASG's starting place in the GDR league . In the last season of the GDR league before taking over the DFB game operations in East Germany, Motor Stralsund reached 10th place and qualified for the new NOFV league . On August 17, 1990, BSG Motor was converted into TSV 1860 Stralsund , which withdrew its football team from the league in the middle of the 1990/91 season and then played in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional league until 1994 . After the 1993/94 season, the football players joined the newly founded FC Pommern Stralsund. The FC Pommern Stralsund e. V., which saw itself in the tradition of ASG Vorwärts Stralsund, was founded on March 29, 1994 by Hans Eckert, Reinhard Klette and Dieter Frisch. With the players of TSV 1860 Stralsund, the starting place in the state league Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (from 1995 Verbandsliga Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) was taken over before the 1994/95 season. The first league league game was won 4-0 against TSG Neustrelitz. In 2006 only the 15th and penultimate place in the association league was achieved, so that FC Pommern was relegated to the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional league. The promotion to the Association League Mecklenburg-Vorpommern succeeded in 2010, where FC Pommern Stralsund has played since then. In October 2017, it was decided at a general meeting that the club should join TSV 1860 Stralsund. The reason for this was the merger negotiations with Stralsund FC, which could only be ended positively when both clubs joined a third club. The reason for the merger negotiations were the views of both clubs that there would not be enough resources in the city (especially in the youth sector and in sponsorship) to position both clubs economically well in the long term. FC Pommern Stralsund officially joined TSV 1860 Stralsund on July 1, 2018. The first men's team played the last game on June 30, 2018 in a test and friendly match against FC Hansa Rostock , which Mecklenburg won 7-0.
