Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz ( debate ? / I ) (born December 20, 1959 in Gorzów Wielkopolski ) is a conservative Polish politician and was Prime Minister of the country between October 31, 2005 and July 14, 2006, succeeding Marek Belka . Audio file / audio sample

Marcinkiewicz became provisional mayor of Warsaw in the summer of 2006 , but was defeated on November 26, 2006 in the second ballot by his liberal opponent Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz from the Platforma Obywatelska (PO, German citizens' platform ).

Until October 2007 he belonged to the Prawo i Sprawiedliwość party (PiS, German law and justice ). Since then he has been independent.

Life

Marcinkiewicz studied physics at the University of Wroclaw (graduated in 1984). He then worked as a primary school teacher and deputy director in his hometown of Gorzów Wielkopolski . He gained further experience as a member of the Solidarność movement since 1981 and as an editor of the Gorzów underground press in the 1980s. In 1992 he was appointed State Secretary to the Ministry of National Education (until 1993). From 1999 to 2000 he was head of the cabinet of Prime Minister Jerzy Buzek . From 1989 to 2002 he was a member of the Christian National Association .

His surprising career leap can mainly be explained by the fact that party chairman Jarosław Kaczyński renounced the office of prime minister in order not to jeopardize his twin brother Lech's chances in the presidential elections . On July 7, 2006 Marcinkiewicz announced his resignation as Prime Minister of Poland, which took place on July 10. The reasons for the resignation are suspected to include differences with Jarosław Kaczyński in the area of personnel policy and Marcinkiewicz's high reputation among the population, which could have represented a threat to Kaczyński. The PiS political committee then recommended party chairman Jarosław Kaczyński to succeed him.

Private life

Marcinkiewicz had four children from his first marriage. On August 21, 2009, he married the 28-year-old banker Izabela Olchowicz at the Polish consulate in Barcelona, from whom he divorced in January 2016.
