In an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , she said afterwards that Poland was subject to "assimilation" in Germany that was much more severe than in other countries of the European Union.

In an interview given to the International Herald Tribune on August 14, 2007, Fotyga pointed out the close ties between Berlin and Moscow (the "historical enemies") and said that Warsaw must defend its interests within the EU and NATO:

"With growing concern over Russia's use of its energy wealth as a political weapon, German restitution claims for property ceded to Poland after 1945 and close ties between its historic enemies, Moscow and Berlin, Fotyga says, Warsaw has to fight to defend its interests inside the EU and the Western military alliance.
