Janusz Kazimierz Kaczmarek (born December 25, 1961 in Gdynia ) is a Polish lawyer and politician. From 2005 to the beginning of 2007 he was Attorney General and from February to August 2007 Polish Minister of the Interior .

The events in August 2007

On August 8, 2007, Kaczmarek was dismissed from the post of Minister of the Interior after seven months. The Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski accused Kaczmarek of having disrupted a secret operation and thus prevented the Samoobrona leader and then Agriculture Minister Andrzej Lepper from being convicted of corruption . The day after his resignation , prosecutors searched his home and office.

On August 13, 2007 he was proposed by LPR and Samoobrona RP as a candidate for the post of prime minister, which he should get after a vote of no confidence in Jarosław Kaczyński. Janusz Kaczmarek approved his candidacy. On August 30, Kaczmarek was arrested at dawn in the apartment of director Sylwester Latkowski . Kaczmarek was charged with obstruction of examination and false testimony. He was released on August 31st. For his part, Kaczmarek had claimed that the government had systematically wired friends and enemies over the past few months. The proceedings against him are still ongoing and were split into two proceedings on March 11, 2008. The accusation of false testimony is being dealt with by the Warsaw Public Prosecutor's Office, while the Białystok Public Prosecutor's Office deals with the allegation of treason.
