Krzysztof Jurgiel (born November 18, 1953 in Ogrodniczki near Białystok ) is a Polish politician and former Minister of Agriculture. He was a member of the Sejm from 1997 to 2003 and since 2005 (in the III, IV, V, VI , VII and VIII electoral terms). He also served from 2003 to 2005 Senator (V. Term), 1995-1998 Mayor (Mayor) of Białystok.

Life

In 1978 he graduated from the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography of the Warsaw University of Technology and became a geodesy engineer. He then worked from 1978 to 1980 as head of the geodesy authority in Białystok, from 1981 to 1984 as a geodesy specialist in the Białystok Building Combine and from 1984 to 1988 as an inspector in the Białystok Voivodeship Office. From 1988 to 1994 he worked as an independent entrepreneur and was the owner of the geodesy and cartography company "Meridian".

In 1994 he became city councilor of Białystok, after which he became deputy city president for land management and economic development. From 1995 to 1998 he was mayor of Białystok. From 1998 to 2001 he was a deputy and deputy chairman of the Sejmik of the Podlaskie Voivodeship .

In 1997 he was elected to the Sejm on the list of Akcja Wyborcza Solidarność (electoral alliance "Solidarność" - AWS). In the 2001 parliamentary elections , he became a member of the Sejm on the list of Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (Law and Justice - PiS). In 2003, he won a Senate by-election and became a Senator for the fifth term.

He has belonged to the Solidarność union since 1980 and was a delegate at national conferences of this union. He belongs to the Association of Catholic Families. From 1990 to 1999 he was active in the national-conservative party Porozumienie Centrum (PC) and then in the party Porozumienie Polskich Chrześcijańskich Demokratieów ("Understanding of Polish Christian Democrats - PPChD). Since 2001 he has been a member of the PiS, including on the state board and as chairman of the ethics committee.

In the parliamentary elections in 2005 he was again on the list of PiS deputies for the constituency of Białystok. On October 31, 2005 he became Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development. He held this office until May 5, 2006.

In February 2006 a journalist from the Polish tabloid " Fakt " called the minister at the time and pretended to be the assistant to Tadeusz Rydzyk , director of the national Catholic radio station Radio Maryja, and asked the minister to provide him with a car. because his car broke down. The minister immediately agreed to lend a service car from the ministry to the "father director", as Rydzyk is also called. This matter turned into a not inconsiderable scandal in Poland.

In the parliamentary elections in 2007 he won a parliamentary seat for the third time with 28,212 votes and became deputy chairman of the Agriculture Committee in the Sejm. In the parliamentary elections in 2011 , he was re-elected as a member and took over the chairmanship of the Agriculture Committee.

In the 2015 parliamentary elections , he was re-elected as a Member of Parliament. On November 16, 2015, he took over the post of Minister of Agriculture in Beata Szydło's cabinet and was replaced by Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski in the Morawiecki cabinet on June 19, 2018
