Paweł Włodzimierz Szałamacha (born January 24, 1969 in Gorzów Wielkopolski ) is a Polish politician and lawyer. From 2015 to 2016 he was Minister of Finance in the Szydło Cabinet .

Life

Szałamacha graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan and the College of Europe . He also studied public management at Harvard Kennedy School and earned a Master of Public Administration degree .

From 1994 to 2004 he worked for the Clifford Chance law firm in Warsaw . He participated in advisory groups on privatization. In 1998 he was admitted to the Poznan Chamber of Legal Advisers as a legal advisor.

He is the author of several publications in the field of law and economics . He published in newspapers such as Międzynarodowy Przegląd Polityczny , Rzeczpospolita , Najwyższy Czas! or Gazeta Polska . Author of the book IV Rzeczpospolita - pierwsza odsłona (IV Republic - first appearance).

For several years Szałamacha was an expert at the Adam Smith Center , an economically liberal think tank . He is co-founder of the Sobieski Institute and held management positions there.

He was active in the Union for Realpolitik . Between 2005 and 2007, Szałamacha worked in the Ministry of the Treasury, first as Undersecretary of State and then as State Secretary. In 2010 he was appointed to the National Development Council ( Narodowa Rada Rozwoju in Polish ) by then President Lech Kaczyński . Standing on the electoral list of the PiS party, he won a member of parliament for the seventh electoral period in the 2011 parliamentary election as a non-party with 12,009 votes. On the occasion of the 2015 parliamentary election , he tried unsuccessfully for re-election in the Poznan constituency. On November 16, 2015, he was appointed Minister of Finance in the Szydło Cabinet and left office on September 28, 2016. In October 2016 he was appointed to the board of directors of the Polish central bank NBP .

Award

In 2006, Szałamacha was awarded the Ordine della Stella della Solidarietà Italiana (Commander).
