Elżbieta Witek

Elżbieta Barbara Witek (born December 17, 1957 in Jawor ) is a Polish politician, member of the Sejm in the 5th, 6th , 7th and 8th electoral terms, minister without portfolio between 2015 and 2017 and press spokeswoman for Prawo from 2015 to 2016 i Sprawiedliwość . In 2019 she was briefly Minister of the Interior and Administration and became Sejm Marshal in August 2019 .

Life

In 1980 Elżbieta Witek graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy and History at the University of Wroclaw . Then she worked as a teacher and headmistress in Jawor . In the same year Witek became a member of Solidarność . In 1982 she was imprisoned for three months for oppositional work. At the beginning of the 1990s she belonged to the ROAD movement founded by Solidarność activists .

In the parliamentary elections in 2001 Witek ran unsuccessfully from the electoral list of Prawo i Sprawiedliwość , but she succeeded in entering the Sejm in the following parliamentary election . For the elections held in 2007 and 2011 , she was able to achieve another parliamentary seat.

From July 2015 to December 2016 she was press spokeswoman for PiS .

After her party's parliamentary election won, she was appointed Minister without Portfolio in the Szydło Cabinet on November 16, 2015 . Her early release took place on December 18, 2017 in the Morawiecki I cabinet .
