TVN24 is a Polish news channel. It was the country's first news channel with a 24-hour program.

The station belongs to Discovery Inc. and started on August 9, 2001 . It can be received in Poland via cable, satellite and IPTV ( nc + , Cyfrowy Polsat , Orange Polska ) and is distributed in the USA via Dish Network . It can also be received via the Internet via live stream (audio only).

The TVN24 team is also responsible for the main news program "Fakty" on TVN , as well as for the weather channel TVN Meteo. During important events, the TVN24 program is broadcast via TVN, which has a significantly greater reach.

The HD version of the channel started on November 30, 2012, making TVN24 the first news channel in East Central Europe to broadcast in HD quality.

On September 23, 2021, the Polish media regulator extended the license for the station, but also asked Discovery to sell its majority in the station and its sister channels. The House of Commons in Warsaw had previously passed a law prohibiting non-European companies from holding majority stakes in Polish broadcasters.

reporting

TVN24 is considered to be largely independent of the ruling law and justice party (PiS) and its media influence. TVN24 reported on the Polish parliamentary crisis in mid-December 2016. In protest against the PiS government, demonstrators blocked the exits to the Polish parliament, preventing PiS boss Jarosław Kaczyński from leaving the building for several hours. In 2017, the National Broadcasting Council, the supervisory body for broadcasting in Poland, came to the conclusion that the broadcaster had "propagated illegal and security-endangering acts". The way in which TVN 24 reported on it violated the broadcasting law. The authority imposed a fine of 350,000 euros on the station. Critics see the fine as an attempt at censorship that amounts to intimidation and anticipatory obedience in reporting. The Broadcasting Council is mostly made up of supporters of the ruling PiS party.
