TLC (short for The Learning Channel ) is an American cable TV station. Reality TV formats and information programs are broadcast . TLC has been part of Discovery Inc. since 1991, which also includes the Discovery Channel , Animal Planet , The Science Channel , DMAX and Eurosport . Since September 2007 it has also been broadcast in high definition.
history
TLC was founded in 1972 under the name Appalachian Community Service Network. In 1980 the station was renamed The Learning Channel, or TLC for short.
International
In March 2010, the broadcasting group announced the global launch of TLC. The international version of TLC started on March 4, 2010 in Norway. Further offshoots followed in Poland (broadcast started October 1, 2010), in the Balkans (broadcast started October 1, 2010), Asia (broadcast started September 1, 2010), India (broadcast started September 1, 2010), the Netherlands (broadcast started July 4, 2011) , South Africa (starting September 1, 2011), Greece (starting October 3, 2011) and the United Kingdom and Ireland (starting April 30, 2013).
Germany
A German free TV version of the station went on air on April 10, 2014.
Austria
On January 1, 2019, TLC Austria went on air with its own advertising window.
