TLC (originally an abbreviation for The Learning Channel ) is a German-language television station operated by Discovery Networks Germany . It went on air on April 10, 2014, freely receivable via satellite , cable and IPTV .

history

In September 2013, Discovery Networks Germany announced that it would also launch the TV format TLC, established in the United States, in Germany in spring 2014. In mid-December 2013, the Bavarian State Center for New Media (BLM) issued a license for eight years from the start of broadcast. In May 2016, the on-air design and the logo changed slightly and were enriched with emojis known from the online area .

Target group and program focus

According to the broadcaster's announcement, the program is aimed primarily at women between the ages of 20 and 49 and will focus on non-fictional entertainment programs, some of which will be broadcast by the American mother station in German for the first time and some will be produced in-house. Documentaries, reports and magazines in particular are to be broadcast. The station is advertised with the slogan Here is where life plays. Jana Ina Zarrella was hired as the broadcaster's presenter .

The program is distributed with an accompanying teletext service.

TLC is freely receivable via the Astra satellite on the frequency 12.460 MHz horizontally ( DVB-S , symbol rate 27.500, error correction 3/4). The transmitter took over the frequency from iM1 there . In the urban area of Berlin , the program can be received via the transmitters at Alexanderplatz and Schäferberg with 10 or 5 kW ERP via DVB-T .

TLC HD has been available on the HD + platform since it started broadcasting . TLC HD was activated on April 4, 2014 on Astra 19.2 ° East on the frequency 10.964 MHz horizontal ( DVB-S2 , symbol rate 22,000, error correction 2/3, modulation 8PSK).
