Animal Planet is a television broadcaster operated by Discovery Inc. worldwide that focuses on documentaries from the animal kingdom. It started broadcasting in English on June 1, 1996 in the USA.

Animal Planet Germany

It started broadcasting in Germany in April 2004, with German and international productions being broadcast. The program is organized by Discovery Networks Deutschland GmbH, based in Munich . Program collaborations exist with Spiegel TV and the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

Until June 30, 2009, Animal Planet was broadcast digitally via satellite and cable as part of Premiere's program package . As a replacement at Sky Deutschland, as Premiere has been called since July 2009, the station was replaced by the new animal station National Geographic Wild . Instead, the station since July 1, 2009 on the cable operator Unity Media , since 1 September 2010 , Kabel BW and since 8 March 2010 on the IPTV platform Telekom Entertain of Deutsche Telekom received too.

Animal Planet Germany is part of Animal Planet Europe and is 50% owned by Discovery Inc. and 50% by BBC Worldwide.
