Whale Wars is a reality TV documentary broadcast in the USA that shows the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society around its founder Paul Watson fighting the Japanese whaling fleet . The program aired on DMAX and Animal Planet. The actions and campaigns are presented in a dramatic way. The series led to the highest ratings in the history of the station Animal Planet and was honored with a Genesis Award .

A spin-off of Whale Wars has been broadcast since 2013 : Whale Wars - Decision in the North Atlantic . This shows the fight against the Faroese whaling.

History of production

In 2007 the television station Discovery Channel started production of the reality documentary . On November 7, 2008, the first episode was broadcast on Animal Planet in the USA . The ships of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, which have set themselves the goal of disrupting or ending the whaling of the Japanese whaling fleet, will be accompanied. The organization's ships were accompanied by several camera teams. Five of the Sea Shepherd's six ships will be accompanied: Brigitte Bardot , Bob Barker , Steve Irwin , Sam Simon and, until their sinking, Ady Gil .

criticism

Peter Brown, first officer of the Steve Irwin, commented in the documentary Paul Watson - Confessions of an Eco-Terrorist that he was portrayed as an "asshole" on the show.

Seasons

In the past few years, 7 seasons with a total of over 60 episodes were shot. The 5th season was broadcast on German television in 2015 on Animal Planet Germany . Season 7 has not yet been broadcast on German television.
