The Brigitte Bardot is one of the French actress Brigitte Bardot named trimaran of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society .

The trimaran was named Gojira (after the well-known Japanese movie monster known in the West as Godzilla ) and Ocean 7 Adventurer and is 35 meters long. It was designed by Nigel Irens and is powered by two diesel engines. The stabilized monohull trimaran is fast up to 24 knots.

history

As an expedition ship, the trimaran managed to circumnavigate the earth in 74 days with its previous owner in 1998, breaking the previous record of 84 days from the 1960s, which was set by the USS Triton , a US nuclear submarine . The ship was used as a charter ship off South Africa until Sea Shepherd was deployed.

In 2008 the ship got a paint job designed by Rat Race Media Adventure. It was the "leading actor" in a TV series on the South African kykNET TV channel , X Aqua . The series started in October 2008 and ran until January 2009.

In May 2011, the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society was informed of the unauthorized use of the “Godzilla” brand by the rights holders of Gojira / Godzilla franchise , the Japanese film studio Tōhō . The company then changed the name of the ship to Brigitte Bardot in honor of the French actress of the same name. Sea Shepherd Germany distanced itself in 2012 "unequivocally from any racist and right-wing populist activities of Brigitte Bardot."

Missions for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society

When the Japanese whaling ship Nisshin Maru was chased at the end of 2011, the Brigitte Bardot was hit and damaged by a giant wave 2,300 km southwest of Australia . The Steve Irwin from the chase fleet rushed to the rescue and escorted the ship into the port of Fremantle . The Brigitte Bardot was among others in the documentary series Whale Wars to see.
