The Spiegel TV GmbH (proper spelling: SPIEGEL TV ) is a television production company in the news magazine Der Spiegel . It creates thematically oriented television programs for numerous public and private television stations and operates two of its own stations and a video portal on the Internet.
history
From 1988 the weekly magazine Der Spiegel produced its own TV magazine with Spiegel TV Magazin in cooperation with the dctp company . Spiegel TV was known mainly by the extensive coverage in the GDR - turnaround time and about the process of German unification . The success led to the establishment of Spiegel TV GmbH in 1990. Spiegel TV was founded by the journalist Stefan Aust , Stephan Burgdorff, Thomas Schäfer and Ute Zilberkweit. In 2001, Spiegel TV and dctp founded the television broadcaster XXP , which was completely sold to the US media group Discovery Communications in 2006 and merged into the new broadcaster DMAX .
Spiegel TV produces various regularly broadcast TV formats, such as the Spiegel TV Magazin on RTL (via the third-party program window with dctp), the Spiegel TV Reportage on Sat.1 or the big Saturday Documentation on VOX . Spiegel TV also produces numerous documentaries and reports, including for the ZDF series Terra X , WISO , 37 Grad , ZDF.reportage or ZDFzeit , but also for the knowledge magazine X: enius on Arte or for 3sat . Spiegel TV also regularly produces documentary dramas and video reports for Spiegel Online and Spiegel Daily for ARD .
In 1995 the production company a + i art and information GmbH & Co. KG was founded, which has been operating as Spiegel TV Infotainment GmbH & Co. KG since 2008 . It produced, among others, Wa (h) re Liebe , Johannes B. Kerner , Kerner , The Oliver Pocher Show , Lanz kocht! and hot & greasy! . Aspect Telefilm-Produktion GmbH , which was taken over in 1998, produced the Spreewald thriller , Nord bei Nordwest and Der Hafenpastor .
Since 2006, the news magazine Der Spiegel has included DVDs from Spiegel TV GmbH at irregular intervals , which contain documentaries on mostly political topics.
The three-part documentary Fall Deutschland about the economic history of the Federal Republic of Germany, produced for ZDF , was awarded the German Television Prize for the best information program of the year and the German Business Film Prize in 2005.

Theme music
Until early 2011, Spiegel TV used Mobile Unit (1980) by George Fenton and Ken Freeman as the theme song. The closing melody of the Spiegel TV reports is an excerpt from the overture to the opera Rienzi by Richard Wagner.
TV channel
In 2006 the channel Spiegel TV Digital started , which was intended as a documentary channel . On October 4, 2011, he was replaced by Spiegel TV Wissen . Mirror Story replaced Discovery Story on July 4, 2009 .
The two television stations are operated by Spiegel TV Geschichte und Wissen GmbH & Co. KG, in which Spiegel TV GmbH holds a 51 percent share and Autentic GmbH holds 49 percent.
Spiegel.TV website
In June 2011, Spiegel TV launched its own web TV service, Spiegel.TV , in which its own productions, as well as those from partners such as the BBC and Vice, can be seen in thematic contexts and channels. The website also offers a live stream that shows numerous programs from the online archive.
